A voluntary community art project undertaken by a group of children from Nachiketa Bal Gram, professional artists, volunteers, and community members to revitalize and beautify Chirantan, pet cemetery in PCMC, Pune (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation).
Chirantan is the only public pet cemetery in India which is maintained and run by PCMC, Pune.
The aim of this project was to give back love and gratitude to our pets and create a memorable resting place for them, and give them a respect they deserve.
We brainstormed and had several community workshops to plan and design what stories would be told on the walls of the cemetery. This cemetery has a 13 feet long wall, which is divided in 13 sections. Each section a mural/story was created. The idea was to glorify the pet rather than the human in all the work we did.
Our future plan is on creating sculptures inside the Cemetery and collecting scrap metals from the local factories to do so.
